The Oman Plant Protection Center focuses on researching pests and diseases, offering training in pest management. Additionally, the Oman Agricultural Research Center is developing sustainable farming practices, including water-conserving irrigation and drought-resistant crops.
Government efforts extend to specific initiatives like supporting small and medium enterprises in local medicinal and aromatic plants, introducing water and fertilizer-efficient technologies like soilless cultivation and aquaponics, and implementing renewable energy (solar power) in net house operations to enhance sustainability and reduce costs.
Internationally, the Omani government collaborates with organizations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). This partnership aims to improve fish marketing systems, enhance fish market infrastructure, develop legislation for fish product marketing, manage fish control systems, and promote fish processing. Notably, the FAO assists Oman in accessing new markets, exemplified by recent openings in Russia, Vietnam, and Brazil, with ongoing efforts to establish a market in China.
